Meet the Fosters

This weekend I had the privilege of being part of a good friend's wedding. I met Adam in college. You see, in Pepperdine, most people did their sophomore year overseas and being that I was already "overseas" I decided to stay in Malibu (a decision that I really regret) but staying in Malibu meant that the sophomore class that was left behind got really close. It was that year that I met Matt, Adam (Foster), Adam (Ballek) and Luke. We became close and till this day remain pretty close. After graduation, Matt got married and Adam got a gf! Fast forward to yesterday, they got married.

I was really really excited for this wedding not only because it was a good friend but because I had seen their engagement pics and I knew it was going to be a really pretty wedding. You can sneak a peak at their engagement pictures here. (A+J)

And the wedding did not disappoint. It was held at Jessica's parent's house, also the house she grew up at. I guess I shall let the pictures speak for itself. I can't do it justice.

Entrance to the wedding area. They sectioned off a little area in their backyard kinda by the pool. There was probably enough seating for about 100 people. The check in area had a nice vintage desk where they set out postcards for people to write a note to the couple or advice for the couple's future. The wall behind the desk was filled with their engagement pictures and also their parents' wedding pictures. The picture on the right is a little photo booth area they made for guests to take pics with whatever props they might want.

The couple and their simple program. Adam is one of the most creative people I have ever met, I'm not sure if he designed this program but I love how simple it is.

Of course no wedding is complete without cake! nom nom nom. The beautiful bride and the picture wall I was talking about.

The cute drink station and table settings. The toffees were made by Adam's mom and were soooo good. I finished all mine today. Toward the end of the night...when we were on the dance floor someone threw my program and name thingy away. URGH! I was gonna scrapbook with that! ah wells. At least I got a picture of it.

I have loads more pictures on facebook of the wedding, the reception, the guests... the MC (Trevor from that now defunct O-Town! lol) more decor details. And if you saw the engagement pics, you will know that Adam has a '66 Mustang. So at the end of the night, this shiny mustang pulls up, the couple hops in and Adam zoooms off to their honeymoon. Great night. Wonderful memories. Now how does one top that wedding experience?!!!

Throwback weekend: Oak Glen

The parents were in town for a good 2 weeks and being that they come every year to visit...we are slowly running out of things to do in good ol Los Angeles so this year we decided to check out some places I've seen online and some recommended by my aunt who also lives out here.

First stop: Oak Glen. Located in the San Bernadino Mountains, it is home to everything APPLE. No not the computer kind...the real kind! According to their website, the best time to go would be in September when the apples are ripe for the picking. Pity we went too early so we were stuck with seeing little ones on the tree. Little green ones that will be big red ripe ones come August. I'll be back to pick you guys!

Apart from apples, another reason to love Oak Glen is for their little town filled with little cute stores and yummy goodies nomnomnom. First stop was for some lunch. My aunt told us about a place she went to the last time she was there that smoked and bbq-ed their ribs in an amazing marinade. Fall-of-the-bone good she said. SOLD. Needless to say, she was right. And an added bonus was the bottle of "Maple Chipotle" marinade I scored at their store. (http://www.losriosrancho.com/store.php)

After lunch it was back to the town to walk around the stores we saw earlier. I won't say much, I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves. We were even treated to a free western gun show while seated on bales of hay.

Imagine my surprise when (in this western town) I spotted a little wooden shack that had some vintage goodies. I got so excited, pulled out my camera took a step forward and heard a loud crack. In my excitement, I didn't notice that I had dropped my sunglasses on the ground and in true Ruth fashion I trampled on them. Good things the parents were in town to buy me a new one :o)

But I digress, all in all (apart from my poor shades) I had an amazing time in Oak Glen and cannot wait till September to drag some friends there for apple picking and yummy goodness. Till next time: Oak Glen California. A great Saturday getaway.

Designing a life

A pretty blog - I want a pretty blog filled with things and ideas and images that I love. I didn't want a blog that documented what my day was like...my emotions...gossip... so I decided to chuck the old blog and start a new one. So I started a new blog...then I was stuck because I also wanted a blog that I could update daily. Daily life is not filled with pretty things so for the longest time I had nothing to write. I was stuck. So, a little change in the initial plan for this blog, along with pretty things, it will include my life. (spelling mistakes and all because being in America has affected my spelling lol)

Fourth of July weekend. A much anticipated long weekend. All I wanted to do was SLEEP. You see, my parents were in town (from Singapore)for the past 2 weeks and we did ALOT and I was tired. But at the same time, I didn't want to waste this weekend. So I decided to plan something. Breakfast and and some antique hunting in Old Towne Orange. If you haven't been there...you should. Not only because Forrest Gump was filmed there but because it is filled with little treasures, it is home to the Antiques Mall. I also knew other than sleep I wanted to work on a project this weekend. In particular, I wanted to pull out the staple gun I got for my birthday (thanks Winston!) pick out some fabric and tackle reupholstering a chair. And....so I did.

Called up some friends for breakfast at the Filling Station and informed the boy that after breakfast I was on a mission: to find a chair/bench to reupholster. So we walked...store to store....

And saw many pretty things, got some inspiration for * fingers crossed * a shabby chic home one day. Just as I was about to give up, I spotted it. I won't say it was THE Chair but it was up there...I knew I wanted a chair for my study desk and I knew I didn't want one from Ikea and I knew this would work. The boy gave it the OK, I paid the man, he threw it over his shoulder and before any protests I googled JO ANNS FABRICS and we were off.

3 hours-chipped nails-covered in red dust later. My chair was done. I am proud to present you with my very first reupholstered chair. This time I didn't take the easy way out. I didn't get Point to help me sand it down, I did it all by myself. My arms are aching but my heart is happy. So happy that I even threw on my bathing suit and went to do some laps in the pool. As I type this, my arms are soooo sore but it was well worth it. Can't wait till my next hunt!
