sew far not sew good

I bought a sewing machine awhile ago. It was an impulse buy because I saw it on sale at target and I wanted it. I wanted it so bad because I saw all these cool things people were sewing and making with their machines and thought ooo easy peasy! Fast forward to today: a year later and I have made NOT ONE THING on that darn machine. It intimidates me, I don't like seeing it (so I hid it under some jackets in the closet) and I have not used it more than twice.

My first encounter with that singer-monster saw me sitting at a desk looking up youtube videos on how to thread the machine! That's when I knew it was over. If I coulnd't thread it...what in the world made m think I could sew. Sure enough. I couldn't even sew a straight line! So I packed it away and cringed when this book came in the mail.

I hid that away too. A stark reminder of my failed sewing attempt.

BUT! in three weeks I will conquer that fear. You see, my friend Sarah and I (sidenote:how funny! Both the Sarah(s) I know are such artsyfartsy people and both read this blog!) are going to dust off that singer-monster and she is going to take me by the hand and get me to sew straight lines. Well that is how I picture it in my head. Or it could just be me coming up with ideas and her sewing and I shall live vicariously through her. But whatever the situation is I thought it best to prepare myself and get myself excited about what I can/shall make that weekend.

We shall start simple with this: Its a tea wallet. But since I don't really drink tea, I think I shall use it as a card holder for days I want to run to the store with a small purse and my huge wallet does not fit in that small purse.

I hope we find cute fabric at the store. If you want to sew along with me, here is the link: handmade therapy.

Then after i have conquered the singer-monster, I shall attempt this pillow.

Or maybe even a quilt!

Oh how ambitious I am. But dream big right? Maybe I should stick with paper....
